Chevron

Like all Helene Blanche’s printed patterns, this expressive collection was first drafted on paper: bold brush-strokes of hand-shaped zigzag lines with crayon and charcoal. The dramatic pattern is a modern-day interpretation of the chevron shape originally displayed on the sleeve of a military uniform to indicate rank or length of service. The Chevron Collection’s bold and vivid character makes it a true interior statement – whether it’s used as wallpaper, curtains, cushions or light upholstery.

Cubism

The Cubism pattern is an interpretation of the classic polka dot. It consists of a repetition of small cubist compositions, originally made with crayons on paper to give it an artisanal expression. Its intricate design of geometric shapes is neat and familiar, but with a barely-there twist which makes it stand apart. With its bold colourways and fragmented pattern, Cubismhas clear references to both classic 18th century wallpapers and the early-20th-century avant-garde art movement. Cubism is available as wallpaper.

Deco Fan

Old-world glamour is distinctly updated in the modern and understated Deco Fan Collection. A tribute to a bygone era of sophistication and decadence, the pattern is an interpretation of the enduring fan symbol of the Art Deco movement. Originally designed with ink on watercolour paper, the elegant symmetry of the hand-painted lines is imbued with a gentle softness, clearly referencing the stylish geometric shapes of the predominant decorative art style of the roaring 1920s and 1930s. The worldly Deco Fan pattern is available as a printed fabric and wallpaper.

Drop Collection

The Drop Collection reflects Helene Blanche’s fascination with the way a single drop of ink behaves when it meets a surface, be it paper or textile, and becomes lively and vibrant. The Drop pattern is an interpretation of the classic dot, and clearly reflects Helene Blanche’s affection for the Japanese minimalist aesthetic – with its precise, pure and organic repeat. This elegant, classic collection has a modern look with an artisanal finish. The lively, vibrant Drop pattern unfolds as a medium linen, a cotton blend voile, a silk and a wallpaper, all of which will underpin the elegance of the interior decoration.

Marquise

Inspired by the 1930s decorative design patterns lattice and fretwork, with just a hint of early Danish Modernism, the Marquise pattern is a testament to Helene Blanche’s fascination of historic craftsmanship. Caught by the geometric symmetry of art deco-style ceiling panels, Helene Blanche created the Marquise pattern with crayon on paper. The hand-drawn diamond shapes are arranged in repetition to form the understated and chic pattern, resembling a textured fabric. With its expressive yet quietly refined expression, Marquise, in both fabric and wallpaper, will blend perfectly with each other as well as other decor of many styles.

Moiré Stripe Collection

The Moiré Collection is inspired by the Italian textile tradition. The collection, featuring Plain Moiré and Moiré Stripe, has its origins in the Lake Como textile district in Italy, with its centuries-old weaving tradition. The patterns reference those found in the elegant and ornate Italian palazzos from the era of aristocratic grandeur: The crisp texture and glossy moirés give the fabric collection its decadence. The main colour inspiration comes from the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen, who himself was inspired by the neo-classical frescoes of the Italian renaissance era. The Moiré Collection is avant-garde yet with a classic expression.

Needlepoint Stripe Collection

The Needlepoint Stripe pattern bridges classic craft methods and modern design, showcasing Helene Blanche’s passion for stripes and dots. With a careful repeat of countless hand drawn, slightly oval dots, the pattern is inspired by a traditional needlepoint stitch. Its dynamic composition gives an impression of a textured stripe, which is beautifully printed on a background of ivory non-woven paper to form a harmony of material and colour. The modernist inspiration for this clever geometric motif underpins its mesmerising mid-century feel and a subtle stylish stillness – perfect for a contemporary, worldly interior setting.

Painted Ikat Collection

Paying tribute to Kasuri, an old Japanese ikat weaving technique, the Painted Ikat Collection presented as printed fabrics and wallpaper, brings a modern look to these traditional and time-honoured skills. The artwork by Helene Blanche is original, hand painted with light brushstrokes in ink on silk – leaving the final printed collection decorative and characteristic with its defined brushstrokes. The soft abstracted ikat design, with historic and artistic references and intricate pattern, will provide for a classic and artistically refined ambience.

Painted Stripe Collection

The hand painted, and therefore slightly uneven, stripes are inspired by Parisian textiles from the ‘1825-1830 French textile manufacturers’ sample book’. The pattern is a re-imagination of the classic stripe, and the ‘perfect imperfect’ hand-painted pattern creates a mesmerising and atmospheric expression. The soft and simple stripes come to life in a distinctive colour scheme inspired from a ‘wallpaper diary’ given to Helene Blanche by her great grandmother. The bold Painted Stripe pattern is available both as a printed linen and a printed silk, and as wallpaper.

Polka Stripe Collection

Silky Linen Collection

Silky Linen is a modern take on the classic silk taffeta. The fabric has its origins in the San Leucio textile district in Italy, with its centuries-old weaving tradition. The Silky Linen fabric is woven by the skilled artisans of the district: a blend of silk and linen. The colours reference to those found in the elegant and ornate Italian palazzos from the era of aristocratic grandeur merged with the neo-classicist style of Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen. The stunning fabric collection has a classic elegance, yet a modern feel.

Small Dots Collection

This abstract pattern of tiny round dots is painted with ink to give them their lively character. The pattern reflects Helene Blanche’s interest in historic references – the Small Dots Collection being inspired by a French textile sample book from 1863. The pattern is an interpretation of a French polka dot, composed as an organic sphere of hand-painted dots, paying homage to a wide-spread tradition: ‘Polka-dot’ fabrics were part of a massive trend in the mid-19th century, spreading from its peasant roots in Central Europe to Paris, London and later the United States. Like all the Helene Blanche wallpapers, Small Dots is produced by British craftsmen, who are proud to celebrate the skills they have obtained to produce their beautiful wallpapers since 1838.

Stitch Collection

The Stitch Collection consists of a printed pattern with countless hand drawn dots on linen and raw silk. Similar to a piece of hand stitched fabric, an abstract composition of geometrical shapes forms the body of the pattern. The deliberate simplicity and the way the print unfolds in a playful expression pays an homage to Danish weavers Vibeke Klint and Lis Ahlmann, who both contributed to the golden era of Danish Design in the 20th century. For this collection, Helene Blanche was inspired by an archived sketch she had made for an earlier weave project. Her lifelong fascination with the dot’s vibrant characteristics beckoned her to pursue this direction. With its timeless and elegant qualities, The Stitch Collection has a universal appeal, easily applicable to any decor in both the raw silk and the refined linen.

Townhouse Collection

With its repeat of cubic squares, Townhouse features a unique geometric pattern. The uneven, soft rhythm and purposeful irregularities emphasise that ‘perfect imperfect’ feel, which underpins its arts and crafts mood. Townhouse’s geometric composition and nostalgic appearance draw clear references from both mid-century wallpaper and the 1920’s avant-garde art movement. The wallpaper’s pronounced textural quality expresses a precise craftsmanship which embodies both the quiet, classy aesthetics and the underlying layer of a jazzy, city-chic personality.
